Tuscany’s essence is contained within its’ capital Florence which lies at the heart of the northern Appenines sits on the banks of the winding river Arno, spanned by the famous Ponte Vecchio.

May, Florence flower display:

May in Florence sees a veritable carpet of flowers covering the main square, Piazza della Signoria, and the area around the neighbouring Uffizi. Perfectly arranged and meticulously tended, the display provides a riot of colour.

 

June, Florence's Calcio Storico:

This is the city's most famous annual event when Florence dresses up, parades, dances, frolics, sings and celebrates in all possible ways its historical connection to the figure of Saint John. document. Calcio Storico takes place on the 24 June.

 

June, Chianti wine festival:

Every year the small Tuscan village of Montespertoli is swamped with people coming to sample the year's vintage at the Chianti Wine Festival. There are tastings in the village's main square (Piazza San Pietro in Mercato), food stands and music. Perfect for a lazy afternoon.

 

September, Chianti Grape Harvest Festival:

Hosted in  Impruneta, this annual Festa dell'Uva has been celebrated by wine connoisseurs since 1926. Visitors can savour the local chianti and wander around, enjoying the wine and gastronomic offerings from this scenic Italian region.  There is also a colourful procession through the main square.

 

October, Olio Novo e Gusti d'Autunno:

The lovely town of Imprunetta invites you to celebrate the production of extra virgin olive oil in the region. Wander the food stands offering dishes designed to enhance the full flavour of olive oil.

November, White Truffle Festival:

During the last three weekends in November, the white truffle festival in San Miniato offers delicious cut-price tartufi plus wine, cheese, salami, olive oil, grappa and much more.

 

January, Artisan Chocolate Fair:

Tuscany's top chocolatiers take part in this chocolate fair, held in Piazza Santa Croce. The programme includes chocolate sampling, games, shows and live music.

 

November to february, Winter in Florence:

Florence celebrates the winter months with a flourish, staging an impressively wide-ranging series of shows, events, concerts and exhibitions. One of the highlights of the festival is a spectacular Christmas market with a huge Christmas tree, stalls and entertainment.
