This area of Tuscany is unbeatable for a destination which offers the best of all worlds. Elegant beach clubs, beautiful countryside, chaming cities full of art, history, stunning architecture and culture, designer boutiques, excellent restaurants, art-exhibitions and pretty hillside villages where you will find the most delicious, authentic Tuscan cuisine!

Whether you are travelling on your own, looking for a romantic break or holidaying as a family, you won’t be disappointed with this areas which is loved by Italians and frequented by the likes of Sir Paul Smith and Giorgio Armani. The Sunday Times travel magazine voted this area of Italy as one of Europes ‘All Star destinations’ with something to offer everyone.

Italians have enjoyed spending their summer in these elegant resorts since the turn of the century. Music lovers will be interested to know that ‘Torre del Lago’ (where the maestro Giacomo Puccini lived and wrote his operas) is only 15 minutes drive from Bridgewater’s villas in Versilia. Today an open-air theatre stand by the lake where you can enjoy Puccini’s operas beneath the stars.

Walking in the Alps is also popular in this area of Italy and the food is some of the best that Italy has to offer…simple, fresh, rustic cuisine to satisfy the most discerning of pallets.

The charming town of Pietrasanta, which has Roman origins, nestles at the foothills of the Apuan Alps only 3km from the golden beaches of Versilia. Pietrasanta grew to importance during the 15th century, mainly due to its connection with marble (the nearby quarries in Carrara are still operating to this day).

Today, this wonderful town is known as the ‘City of Art and Artists’ and has long enjoyed the patronage of artist such as Michelangelo who was commissioned by the Medici family of Florence to sculpt there and in later years Mitorai, Bottero and Annigoni .

The first sculpting schools of Pietrasanta were originally established in 1841 and to this day artists from around the world travel to this small town to practise their art under the supervision of world famous artists.

Every summer there is an art exhibition situated in and around the main piazza. This year the town hosted the latest exhibition from American artist ‘Nall’, entitled ‘Violata Pax’.

As well as being an epicentre for art, Pietrasanta is famous for its’ restaurants - varying from elegant to rustic. L’Enoteca, on the Via Garibaldi, was named by Sir Paul Smith as one of his favourite restaurants in the Sunday Times travel Magazine. With Pietrasanta being his favourite place for a short haul break. .
